Definition
Non-profit organizations were virtually nonexistent in China before the onset of economic reforms in the 1980s. Various forms of non-profit organizations have become the important force of Chinese social development and progress. In China, the non-profit sector is a very huge and complex system which includes not only the governmental mass organizations and the governmental not-for-profits in the old system, but also civil organizations located on the margin of the system and various non-profit organizations operating outside of the system.
The procedure for incorporation an NPO is similar to the incorporation procedure for an RO except in that the pre-approval by the industry-related governmental department is necessary for an NPO.
